Marissa Meyer nació en Tacoma,Washington y asistió a la Universidad Luterana del Pacífico ,donde recibió un grado en escritura creativa. Antes de escribir Cinder,Meyer trabajó como editora de libros durante cinco años y escribió Sailor Moon fan fiction bajo el seudónimo de Alicia Blade.
